Hi I am Yashika, and For Frisco High school's independent mentorship program, I have chosen to take on the exciting challenge of learning the dermatological field. Some adjectives to describe me are easy-going, determined, and confident. Some hobbies that I participate in in my free time are art, cooking, and any sport that you can think of.  I have chosen this field because I have learned what the feeling of being confident in your own skin can do for a person and I want to make young teens such as people like me and you feel this way. As a highschool student ,and a teenager that is growing and changing like most of my classmates, I have seen that many of us suffer with low self esteem and confidence due to our changing skin. While this can most definitely be due to other factors, a prominent reason is due to not knowing how to take care of your skin's health. In the future, I would like to be able to inform patients of how their skin works and not make them feel indifferent because everyone experiences it too. I discovered my interest in this field recently after I decided that general physiology was not for me. I realized that I enjoy more detailed work and like seeing a person not only having physical results, but also mental results with the help of my treatment and diagnosis. As I did some research on my own this summer of what I wanted to do out of highschool and college, I found myself having a liking for psychology, engineering, and health. I saw myself having a fascination with the effects of makeup and proper skincare on one’s mind. I learned that these three topics all have a common factor which is skin. Being in ISM will allow me to explore these topics with the help of a mentor. I am beyond excited to learn about techniques, innovations, topical treatments and possibly how to create my own. My dream in the future is to be able to have my own dermatology clinic with a skin care line or work as someone who creates makeup products. I want to learn the skin first and the biology that makes up our epidermis, then enter into the chemistry of products that are beneficial for clear skin. My goal this year in ISM is to be able to get a head start in the field of study that I want to be employed in, learn more about the profession, get an insight into professionalism, and make useful connections.I am presented with an array of opportunities to help guide me in my future. It is my responsibility to take advantage of them and grow to my fullest potential. The independent study mentorship program includes everything for students like me to take our first steps into the real world of careers, internships, and more. To wrap up, this opportunity will greatly aid my future aspirations by giving me the chance to experience the job that I have been so excited about. The career that all my hard work will go into. I will finally get insight into what my future could look like. I am excited to have the hands-on experience of being in a clinic and seeing actual patients come that are seeking help. This is a completely different and enticing experience like nothing I have done before. This opportunity is much different than the educational and more textbook-oriented learning I have done in the past. I will work to continue and prosper as a student in the program that will kickstart my dream career.
